Taktsang Dzong, Bhutan

It was a scary climb.

Internet connections are scarce here.

This is Taktsang Dzong, Bhutan. It's like a museum.

  1. Really beautiful. Didn't it suffer with fire damage about 15 years or so ago or was that a different place? I remember seeing something about it. If it was this temple area has it been reconstructed?

  2. Tony,
We were told that there was a fire in the 1950s and a bigger more devastating fire in 1998. The reconstruction was complete during the past later part of the last decade. The government and King paid for most of it along with many smaller groups and individuals.

It took about half a day to climb. We stayed two nights (I have friends there who are monks that stayed with me in New York).

Bhutan is the most beautiful place of all the countries in the Himalayas and the least spoiled by outsiders. The people are wonderful, in every sense of the word.

  3. I've often wondered if Buhtan was worth a trip. It sounds too good to be true.
